Researchers at Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland have found a way to turn one of the country's largest exports into biofuel.

Made from the by-products of the distillation process of whiskey, biofuel, according to scientists, is ready for use in conventional car engines without any modifications.

The two main by-products of the whiskey production process, “pot ale” and “draff”, can be combined to be processed into a fuel called butanol.

It can be used as fuel both in pure form and in combination with gasoline or diesel fuel. A 10% mixture with these types of fuel is the most suitable option for consumption.

According to the researchers, this will reduce the amount of petroleum products used for fuel production.

The process of preparing a new type of fuel is practically based on the production of industrial waste and does not require any additional resources or agricultural costs.
