Incredible facts

It is well known that laughter prolongs life. But a recent study has shown that laughter can be very beneficial for improving women's fertility. Israeli doctors say that clowns help women who are being treated for infertility get pregnant.

After the introduction of so-called “clown therapy”, patients undergoing in vitro fertilization were 15 percent more likely to become successfully pregnant. “To our surprise, we found significant differences between women going through and not interacting with a clown,” says Dr. Shevach Friedler, a trained mime and specialist in infertility problems at the medical center in Zerifin.

33 out of 93 women entertained by a clown for 10-15 minutes successfully conceived, compared to 18 patients from the same group who did not communicate with the clown. Experts said that such “talking therapy” can help infertile women become pregnant.

American scientists noted that accumulated stress is the most important reason why a woman becomes unable to ovulate. “A specially designed medical clowning, lasting 10-15 minutes, was created by our team of clowns. After the embryo transfer, the woman, lying motionless for an hour in bed, was approached by a clown and entertained her, “says Friedler.

“The clown first made eye contact with the woman and then talked to her and amused her. His job was to make a woman laugh and smile. He told her funny stories and showed her funny tricks,” Friedler continued. One doctor from the medical team, Shlomi Algussi, is a trained clown who appears before women wearing a chef's hat and a white and yellow vest. “It makes women smile and feel less anxious. Once the embryo is transferred to the uterus, stress can be critical.”
