The beautiful North Aegean Islands are located in the northern part of the Aegean Sea and have a very rich history. Until 1912, they belonged to the Ottoman Empire (Turkey). Unlike most of the other islands of Greece, the North Aegean is quite difficult to unite into a single archipelago. Since almost all of them are scattered over a vast territory and have no common features. The islands are bordered on the south by the Eastern Sporades archipelago, on the west by the Northern Sporades.

How to get
Communication between the islands is carried out mainly by ferries departing from the port of Thessaloniki, and less often from Piraeus. There is an airport only on the island of Lemnos, where planes fly from the island of Lesbos and Thessaloniki.

The main resorts of the North Aegean Islands
The 4 largest islands belonging to Greece are distinguished in the group:

  • Ayios Efstratios, where tourism is not developed
  • Thassos is a picturesque island overgrown with beautiful centuries—old pine trees
  • Lemnos, which, although deprived of tourist fame, is quite suitable for a quiet and relaxing holiday; there are good beaches, hotels, attractions, restaurants and shops
  • Samotraki, where eco-tourism is developed, for the most part: crystal clear sea water, healing springs and excellent fishing are here. At one time there was a famous statue of Niki, which now adorns the Louvre
