Amalienborg Palace
Amalienborg is one of the most beautiful palaces in all of Denmark. This is not only a business card of its capital Copenhagen, but also an apartment building. And the most important people in Denmark live in it — Queen Margrethe and her family. The complex of Rococo palace buildings is located facing each other.
Copenhagen City Hall
One of the tallest buildings in Copenhagen is the Town Hall. The building acquired its current appearance in 1905, and the height of its tower today is more than 105 meters — not every urban dominant can boast of such a height.
The Little Mermaid in Copenhagen
One of the most famous symbols of Copenhagen in the world is the bronze Little Mermaid. The idea of creating a sculpture came to Karl Jacobsen’s mind. The son of the creator of the Carlsberg brewery, impressed by the ballet The Little Mermaid, invited the ballerina who performed the main role to pose for the sculptor Edward Eriksen.
Copenhagen Zoo
The first menagerie in Copenhagen was opened in 1859 by ornithologist and animal painter Nils Kjarbilling in the park of Frederiksberg Palace, now occupied by the Royal Danish Military Academy. The number of exhibits was small, most of them were species typical of Denmark.
The Round Tower of Copenhagen
The old witch from Andersen’s fairy tale “Flint” directs a retired soldier to the dungeon for a magical artifact and describes his watchdog, whose “eyes are each the size of a round tower.” Not everyone knows that a very specific Round Tower in Copenhagen is meant.
