It turns out that some martial arts skills can be applied not only to humans, but also to animals and even marine life.

According to ABC News, in Hawaii, a tourist fought off a shark using some taekwondo techniques. According to the woman herself, who was attacked by a sea monster, the incident occurred near the island of Maui. According to Mariko Haugen, she and her husband sailed in the immediate vicinity of the coast. The couple enjoyed the warm sea and looking at the various types of turtles that the local waters are full of.

As the woman admits, the appearance of the predator came as a surprise to both spouses. At first, she was panicked, but a few minutes later Mariko pulled herself together and began to fight off the animal, using some martial arts skills. A martial arts school teacher is familiar with these techniques firsthand.

Haugen claims that she hit the shark twice on the head, and only after these blows did the monster retreat. Mariko's husband Don Haugen says he watched his wife, who is a taekwondo coach, hit a shark on the nose several times.

The woman still managed to fight off huge attacking fish and go to land. She received first aid on the shore. It should be noted that the woman was physically injured. However, the shock of her meeting with a marine predator was much stronger. The woman was calmed down for several hours. It is reported that Haugen's husband was not injured. He was only a witness, not a participant in what happened.

According to one of the local publications, the shark still managed to bite the woman's shoulder and thigh. But doctors say that her condition is stable and does not cause concern. Experts who study the behavior and structure of sharks unanimously assert that the nose is indeed the most sensitive part of the body of these marine life.

The most effective advice in the event of a shark attack is to try to fight it off by hitting the nose. It is in this case that the predator retreats. There are many known cases when a person escaped from a shark due to such blows.
