The secret recipe for Coca-Cola, the world's best-selling soft drink, has been kept under lock and key in a bank vault in Atlanta since 1925. However, the other day, an invaluable list of the drink's ingredients moved to the Coca-Cola World Museum, located in downtown Atlanta.
“It's time for our secret formula to come home,” said Coca-Cola Company CEO Muhtar Kent at the opening ceremony of the new exhibition.
Although museum visitors will now be able to stay close to the coveted recipe, which dates back to 1886, they will not be able to take any notes: it will remain hidden from view, as it is contained in a giant metal vault that can be accessed by checking your handprint. Coca-Cola, having made a marketing ploy and going the smart way, has been making a lot of noise about the drink's formula and the so-called “secret 7X” ingredients for many years. It is said that only a handful of people around the world know the recipe. The museum's new exhibit plays on this mystery.
However, what the museum won't tell you for sure is that the original drink recipe, formulated by John Pemberton, has long been leaked to the masses. A handwritten copy of the prescription was found in a Georgia pharmacist's personal book more than half a century ago.
