A lot of people are afraid of oncology. World Health Organization experts are constantly updating the list of potential and confirmed carcinogens. This list already includes sausage and red meat.

Despite the fact that some habits, substances and products increase the risk of developing cancer, and everyone knows about this, much less is known about the harmful effects of some others.

Today we will tell you about 10 things that are quite dangerous from the point of view of developing cancer.

Cancer causes

1. Makeover

No, we certainly don't encourage you to throw away your favorite beauty products. However, you should beware of some of their dangerous ingredients that can damage your health.

Despite the fact that it is quite difficult to identify the exact link between a particular element and cancer, special attention should be paid to the following components of cosmetics: phthalate compounds , parabens and formaldehyde, ethanolamine and 1,4-dioxane.

Again, there is no accurate information that this or that element causes cancer. However, it is important to know that these substances have negative effects on your health.

2. Alcohol

Some may believe that there is nothing wrong with “occasional drinking”. However, studies have shown a link between alcohol and an increased risk of developing 7 types of cancer (breast, liver, colon and rectal cancer, oropharynx, larynx and esophageal cancer).

The absolute maximum that a person can afford is 1-2 servings of alcohol per week, but it is certainly better to completely give it up.

3. Not enough sun

We're constantly taught to be afraid of the sun, but sometimes going outside on a warm day without sunscreen is even beneficial. Our body produces vitamin D when exposed to the sun, and most people are deficient in this vitamin.

In turn, a low amount of vitamin D is directly related to an increase in the risk of developing cancer. So don't be afraid to catch the sun's rays to help your body.

The causes of cancer

4. Too much sun

As with the vast majority of things on the planet, everything should be in moderation. Of course, you should not always run into the shade, but even more so fry until you burn.

Whether you work outside or enjoy running every day, the more time you spend in the sun, the greater your risk of skin cancer, especially if you are outside during the sunniest hours. However, using a sunscreen with a protection factor of 30 reduces the risk of developing skin cancer by 40-50 percent.

5. Sedentary work

The vast majority of office work is a long stay in a sitting position. In fact, a huge number of people spend their whole day at the computer, and go to work while sitting on public transport or in a car.

Sitting is inextricably linked to low levels of physical activity, which in turn increases the risk of colorectal cancer by 8 percent, lung cancer by 6 percent, and endometrial cancer by 10 per cent.

One study showed that even the most routine exercises reduce the likelihood of developing any type of cancer by 7 percent. However, it is not clear why this happens.

6. High growth

In the fall of 2018, a study was conducted that showed that every 10 cm of height in addition to the standard height increases the risk of developing cancer by 10 percent. It is believed that the most likely thing is that a tall person's body simply has more cells, so the risk of unhealthy changes in these cells is also increased.

The authors of the study proved that high stature is the culprit in the development of 18 out of 23 types of cancer, which means that this factor is actually a serious risk factor. Therefore, a tall person needs to be much more attentive to his health.

7. Smoke from kebabs

Let us repeat that experts and doctors have long come to the conclusion that it is better not to eat kebab, because it is a carcinogenic product. However, as it turned out, those who decided to give up kebab are also at risk.

According to researchers, not only the meat itself is dangerous, but also the smoke emanating from it. Smoke contains harmful substances that can enter our body through the skin. These are carcinogens, so once in the body, they significantly increase the risk of developing cancer.

8. Ignoring dental floss

If you don't take proper care of your teeth, you're not just harming them. A person who does not use dental floss and refuses mouthwash is much more likely to suffer from gum disease.

This, in turn, as experts were able to prove in 2018, increases the likelihood of developing colorectal and lung cancer by as much as 24 percent.

Of course, this is a very strong argument for those who do not regularly brush their teeth and do not use dental floss — the risk is greatly increased, so you need to do everything possible to minimize it.

9. Sleeping with the TV running

I'm sure each of us fell asleep at least once when the TV was on. Do you think it doesn't do any harm? Probably if it only happened once. But if this happens regularly, you automatically fall into the risk group.

Back in 2010, researchers came to the conclusion that this kind of sleep disrupts the natural production of the hormone melatonin, which, in turn, does not just disrupt sleep patterns and wakefulness, but also increases the risk of developing prostate cancer and breast cancer.

It should be noted that the authors of the vast majority of studies say that a healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition and physical activity play a huge role in the prevention of oncology.
