Unbelievable facts

With increasingly developing technologies capable of mass destruction, with our knowledge of the cosmic threat to our planet, as well as with the media that constantly trumpet Armageddon, a lot has accumulated hype, however, over the years, none of the predictions of the end of the world have come true. Below are 10 apocalyptic doomsday scenarios that have been worrying people for years.

Aliens

Aliens are kidnapping us en masse, killing us and experimenting, at least in the world of fiction. Of course, no foreign creatures have been discovered so far, yet we know we're not alone in the universe. If aliens manage to cross interstellar distance to attack Earth, many wonder if they can actually land on earth and start shooting at us first, like this is often shown in movies. It would make more sense for them to bombard strategic targets and settlements, starting from orbit.

Black holes

Widespread paranoia suggests that the world's largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider, will be able to generate black holes that will swallow whole ones planets.

However, even if it could generate black holes, and even if they didn't evaporate right away, as the theory says, they would be so small that it would take about 100 hours for each of them to do so to absorb just one proton. In this case, it would take longer for such a black hole than our entire universe exists to consume even a milligram of matter.

However, there are other black holes that roam around the galaxy invisibly. However, the nearest such holes are thousands of light years away from us (one light year equals 10 trillion kilometers).

The influence of space

The catastrophic impact of a comet or astroid is believed to be responsible for the mass extinctions that eventually led to the end of the dinosaur era.

Even small cosmic impacts can provoke unspeakable chaos — the Tunguska explosion, which a century ago mysterious “leveled” the territory of Siberian forests to the size of Tokyo, may have been triggered by a fallen asteroid, only 20 meters in diameter.

Experts are currently working on developing an early warning system for future space impacts.

Gamma ray explosion

Gamma-ray bursts are the most powerful explosions in the universe, producing as much energy in a minute as our Sun did in 10 billion years.

Fire pinwheels in space, called WR 104, are 8,000 light years from Earth, but if at least one of them reaches our planet, it is likely to trigger a massive annihilation.

Infections

Infectious diseases have devastated humanity throughout its history. The Black Death (bubonic plague was its most common form) killed almost half of the people in every region it managed to enter.

At the same time, malaria, AIDS and other diseases continue to devastate the world to this day. In recent years, we have begun to face quite unusual diseases, such as SARS, avian and swine flu, and Ebola.

An even greater threat may come from various kinds of super vaccines that are multidrug-resistant to strains. Many experts also argue that humanity should reduce the consumption of antibiotics in such quantities, as this is very dangerous.

Nuclear war

Nuclear bombs have been making people awe in anticipation of Armageddon for decades.

And while the leading countries in nuclear weapons stockpiles are cooperating to significantly reduce their arsenals, nuclear terrorism is still a relevant topic, since even relatively limited a nuclear conflict could change not only global climate conditions but also affect the entire globe.

Robots

Computers are getting smarter every year, raising concerns about their possible conquest of the land in the future.

However, robots are more likely to defeat us through love than war — for example, some people may prefer robots to lovers.

The sun

The sun is vital for us, but it can also irreparably harm man-made technologies that people are now more dependent on than ever before. Solar eruptions disrupt radio communications and the operation of electrical networks, but past events were much more serious: for example, the short circuit of telegraph wires in 1859, caused by excessive solar activity, has led to a series of fires in North America and Europe. This event was responsible for the aurora, which was so bright that it could be observed near the Earth's poles.

If a solar storm occurred in our time, it would have devastating consequences, as modern electrical and communication infrastructure is much more developed, and it is estimated that the initial damage This phenomenon will not only cost $2 trillion, but it will also paralyze the entire earth and create chaos around the world.

Supervolcanoes

There are a number of volcanoes on earth that are capable of gigantic eruptions, but most of these eruptions took place tens of thousands of years ago. Such volcanoes include Krakatoa and St. Helens. These supervolcanoes have the potential to completely change the climate and affect life around the world. Unlike other threats to humanity, such as space influence or nuclear attack, there are currently no strategies that could prevent eruptions.

Zombie

There are brain-controlling parasites that can turn ants into zombies, but we don't know of any micro-organisms that can turn humans into walking dead.

However, researchers are still using this scenario to study how the epidemic is spreading.
