Unbelievable facts
The end of the world is very near, according to American preacher Harold Camping from Oakland, California, USA. Camping confidently announces the second coming of Christ on May 21 this year. Moreover, he even says the exact time: 6 p.m. It is then that 2 percent of the world's population will go to heaven and the rest, respectively, to hell.
722500 day since the Crucifixion
The preacher did not come to this conclusion right away. After studying the Bible thoroughly for 70 years, he came up with his own system for interpreting Bible prophecies. The reason why the world is set to end on May 21 is very simple: this day will be 722,500 from April 1, 33 AD, the date it takes to be the day of Christ's crucifixion. 722,500 is important because multiplying three sacred numbers — five, ten, and seventeen — by two times will produce exactly that result.
Moreover, according to Camping, earthquakes in Japan, New Zealand and Haiti also portend the end of the world. All the lies, stealing and immorality of modern society point to this. And even the gay movement is a sign of the end sent by God.
The influence of radio
If Camping talked about the end of the world in the church to his parishioners, he might be considered another eccentric person predicting the apocalypse. But the matter is complicated by the fact that every day an 89-year-old preacher broadcasts about the end of the world on Family Radio Network, a religious organization funded by donations from listeners.
Camping founded Family Radio Network in 1950 and broadcasts in 48 languages. In the US alone, there are 66 radio stations owned by the network. They exist in Russia, Turkey and South Africa. Camping has tens of thousands of followers around the world.
Donations were also used to organize an entire campaign to warn of the end of the world. 2,000 billboards with slogans like “Blow the horn, warn people” are hung in the United States. Trucks with the same messages are driving in every state.
The mistake came out!
The preacher's critics recall that this is not Camping's first prediction of the end of the world. On September 6, 1994, thousands of his listeners gathered to witness the coming of Christ.
Camping explains his mistake by saying that he did not study the Bible well enough at that time. Now, after more research, he believes that God has given indisputable evidence of the end of the world.
