February 22 — the end of the world

The prophecy about Ragnarok is described in the work “Zdda in Prose” by Icelandic writer Snorri Sturluson. The Vikings believed it would come after three cold winters without a summer.

Experts from the Jorvik Viking Center predicted that the world would end on February 22. They claim that the sound of an ancient horn was heard on November 15 last year, and it marked the countdown of the Scandinavian apocalypse. This horn belongs to the god Heimdallr, who will blow the horn 100 days before the end of the world.

Modern Vikings, followers of Scandinavian prophecy, will travel to York in the UK to celebrate the festival.

Ancient Vikings

· The name “Viking” comes from the Old Norse “vikingr”, which meant “pirate attack”. The Vikings sailed long distances from 800 to 1050 A.D., searching for new lands, looting and trading.

· Although Scandinavia was home to the Vikings, they discovered many lands and settled in other countries, including Great Britain, Greenland, America and Russia.

· Among the many gods that the Vikings believed in, the most famous are: Thor is the god of thunder and lightning, Loki is the god of cunning and deception who could turn into different animals
