Many patients prefer acupuncture to pills and injections, not knowing that hundreds of people who have undergone acupuncture courses subsequently suffer from complications such as dizziness and collapse lung. In addition, after an acupuncture session, forgotten needles often remain in the patient's body, British doctors warn.
Researchers from the National Patient Safety Agency cite 325 cases where a patient received acupuncture instead of the expected benefit only harm. In particular, 100 patients complained that the doctor forgot a needle in their body. 63 patients lost consciousness. 99 people complained of weakness and dizziness. Five people suffered a lung collapse, known as pneumothorax or a sleepy lung. This was due to an accidental needle penetration. Fortunately, all victims were saved, but if delayed, these complications could easily have been fatal.
Researchers are sure that the actual number of victims of acupuncture is much higher, since scientists have only taken into account cases when a patient underwent acupuncture at an official medical facility. No one knows how many patients have been harmed by doctors in private practice. In addition, it is known that many patients go to the doctor only in case of serious complications, and when they are more or less well, they prefer not to go to doctors.

Acupuncture is a treatment method that originated in China over 2000 years ago. The acupuncture procedure involves piercing the skin with needles at specific points to connect to so-called “energy pathways”. It is believed that acupuncture, or acupuncture, helps to cope with a variety of ailments, such as migraines, allergies and pains of various origins. Many acupuncture practitioners claim that acupuncture can treat infertility, obesity and help stop smoking.
At the same time, critics are inclined to believe that the positive effect of acupuncture is nothing more than a placebo effect. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that an acupuncture practitioner is not required to have any diplomas or certificates, although serious medical institutions require exams to confirm qualifications.
However, the placebo effect is not bad either. The main thing is not to pierce anything superfluous and that you do not forget the needle in your body.
