Unbelievable facts
A South African court has canceled a government contract to purchase 11 million female condoms made in China. The reason for this decision was the too small size of Chinese rubber products, as well as the fact that Chinese condoms do not meet quality standards.
The lawsuit was filed in a South African court by Sekunjalo Investments Corp. The South African Ministry of Finance entered into a contract for the supply of condoms with Siqamba Medical, which intended to purchase barrier contraceptives in China. However, Sekunjalo Investments Corp. did not agree with this decision and filed a lawsuit in the Pretoria High Court. At the trial, Sekunjalo Investments Corp. put forward numerous arguments in favor of its products.
In particular, the company claims that the condoms they supply to South Africa are 20 percent larger than the size of condoms produced in China. In addition, Chinese condoms, manufactured under the Phoenurse brand, are made from the wrong material. The Phoenurse condoms that Siqamba Medical intended to supply to South Africa are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Administration) and the South African Bureau of Standards.
South Africa has the highest prevalence of HIV in the world, so the use of barrier contraceptive methods in this region is particularly important.
