Dairy products have long been known for their beneficial properties, as they are a valuable source of calcium, vitamins and proteins. However, scientists have recently discovered another beneficial feature of milk: it turns out that people who regularly consume milk and dairy products, such as yogurt, cheese and even ice cream, have better memory and perform better on tests that assess brain conditions.
Researchers at the University of Maine surveyed 972 people aged 23 to 98 to answer questions about their diet, including how often they consume dairy products. Volunteers were then tested for concentration, memory, and ability to learn new information.
The results of a study published in the International Dairy Journal showed that people who consume dairy products at least 5 times a week showed better results when performing tests that test memory than those who rarely consume dairy products.
“Our study results show that dairy products have a positive effect on the brain. This is another reason to make changes to your diet and consume low-fat or low-fat milk daily,” the researchers urge.
The numbers are actually impressive: some tests show that people who rarely consume dairy products are five times more likely to fail these tests than those who consume dairy products daily or 5 times a week.
The authors of the study are convinced that some elements contained in milk, in particular magnesium, can help combat memory impairment.
Scientists also suggest that milk also reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases and hypertension. Some experts disagree with this statement, arguing that the fat contained in milk, on the contrary, can cause diseases of the cardiovascular system.
