Google has recently added products: Android, Google + and the recently launched Google Play. Along with these and other projects, the company remains focused on what made it a household name: the search engine.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the company is planning a major renovation of its search engine. The goal of these changes is for Google to be able to display search in the way people perceive the world, in other words, to “humanize” it.
From a technical point of view, Google's tool provides more relevant results through a process called “semantic search”. It will understand the meanings of words that users search for. Due to current keywords, the site's search engine will give more accurate results.
For example, as WSJ explains, if you search for “Lake Tahoe”, Google will show results at the top about the lake's location, altitude, and average temperature.
With the current search process, users are provided with links to Wikipedia or maps.
It is reported that over the next few months, the site will start displaying more facts and direct answers to searches.
