New studies have shown that lifestyle changes will help prevent the development of Alzheimer's disease. You need to stop smoking and exercise more. Of course, it is not surprising that a healthy lifestyle contributes to the health of such a vital organ as the brain. But research author Dr. Deborah Barnes believes that her research results were very interesting.
“More than half of cases can potentially be prevented through lifestyle changes. Moreover, we can say not only about dementia, but also about other chronic diseases,” she said.
After analyzing the data obtained, scientists suggested that worldwide, the biggest risk factors for developing Alzheimer's disease are ignorance, smoking, and low physical activity, depression, high blood pressure in the middle of life, diabetes and obesity.
“Together, these factors increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's by 51 percent. Today, there are about 17.2 million patients with this diagnosis in the world,” she said.
Scientists believe that even changing your lifestyle quite a bit, such as increasing physical activity and quitting smoking, will help protect against the development of Alzheimer's disease and others types of dementia.
“We assume that getting rid of risk factors will help significantly reduce risk,” says Barnes. “The challenge now is to prove that our assumptions are correct.”
