For example, simple dirt, such as dust, can be safely removed using a soap solution.

But it often happens that gold jewelry is wrapped in pollution caused by the oxidation of metals, which are part of the alloy from which the products are made. Due to the fact that gold is a fairly soft material that is easy to damage, when making gold jewelry, the alloy may include metals such as silver, zinc, copper and nickel.
When these metals come into contact with moisture, they may turn black or green (as copper does). Black or green spots may appear on gold jewelry. Some contaminants of this type may be too small to be seen by the naked eye.

How to clean white gold

In fact, white gold is an alloy of gold, copper, nickel or palladium. Nickel gives white color to the alloy, which replaces silver. Despite the fact that white gold items are plated with rhodium, which is a fairly stable element, it can simply wear off over time. Based on this fact, it should be noted that white gold should be cleaned only with a soft cloth. IMPORTANT: Never brush white gold with powders, pastes and a toothbrush.
1. Create a solution of water and ammonia (50/50). If you want, you can add shampoo. Dip your items into the solution for 30 minutes, then rinse them and be sure to dry them, as moisture can adversely affect the alloy.
2. To remove grease and dirt from white gold, you can use a 25% aqueous ammonia solution.
3. To restore the shine to gold, one popular method suggests using a soft cloth and lipstick. Titanium dioxide, which is contained in lipstick, helps to remove blackness from the surface of the product. Apply lipstick to a cotton swab and start cleaning, then lightly polish the product.
4. It may happen that your white gold jewelry has an iodine stain. It does not matter, the problem can be solved by dipping the jewelry for 20-25 minutes in a hyposulphite solution (used by photographers), which can be bought in stores for amateur photographers.
