Health
Hardly anyone will like it if they point out bad breath and politely offered mint candy.
There is not much you can do in this situation, but if you are better prepared in this regard, you can avoid an awkward situation in the future.
As with any other body odor, halitosis can be managed with knowledge and hygiene products.
What causes bad breath and how do you know if you suffer from it?
Causes of bad breath

Dry mouth
The most common cause of halitosis is dry mouth. Dryness occurs when you don't drink enough water, or if you've been sleeping or traveling, causing your body to slow down saliva production.
Dry mouth leads to dead cells on the tongue that decompose bacteria. As a result of this process, an unpleasant odor occurs.
Poor dental hygiene
A bad smell usually comes from the tongue, although the same process of decomposition of dead cells and food debris can also occur in other areas of the mouth, such as food stuck in the teeth.
If you don't brush your teeth thoroughly, bacteria can build up on your teeth and cause a bad smell.
Meals
Another common cause of bad breath is the food you consume. For example, many people are familiar with breathing from garlic or onions, or breathing from a smoker.
Hard diets and fasting can also lead to a bad smell, as the body breaks down fat and releases ketones that can be smelled.
Smoking
Smoking itself is a source of bad breath. Smokers also often develop periodontitis, which also causes a bad smell.
Oral infections
An unpleasant odor can be caused by tooth decay, periodontitis or stomatitis.
Occasionally, bad breath comes from congestion in the tonsils, chronic inflammation of the nose, sinuses and throat, which leads to mucus flowing down the back of the throat.

There are also medical causes of bad breath, including:
· Medications
· Xerostomia (dry mouth caused by drugs)
· Gastrofood reflux
· Kidney and liver diseases
· Diabetes and others
The smell of acetone from the mouth
The smell of acetone from the mouth may indicate poorly regulated diabetes.
When the body lacks insulin, it uses fatty acids for energy, resulting in ketones, byproducts of fat metabolism. Ketones are also produced during fasting or a diet rich in fat and poor in carbohydrates.
Ketones can cause nausea, vomiting and fatigue, as well as lead to a dangerous condition called diabetic ketoacidosis. In this case, you need to see a doctor for help.
Bad breath in a child: causes

There are many reasons that can contribute to a child's bad breath. Often the cause is temporary and insignificant, but sometimes it may indicate some health problems.
Chronic sinusitis
This is one of the common and hidden causes of bad breath. The mucus accumulates in the sinuses and sinuses, flows down the back of the throat and stays on the back of the tongue. Signs of sinusitis are frequent colds, yellow eye discharge, runny nose, frequent cough.
Try steam cleansing (sitting in the bathroom, filling it with hot water steam) or seawater drops several times a day. See a doctor to test your child for chronic sinusitis.
Enlarged tonsils
If a child has enlarged tonsils, discharge from the nose and mouth may accumulate and this can lead to an unpleasant odor.
Dental problems
Food stuck between your teeth can cause a bad smell. Watch how thoroughly your child brushes his teeth. A pleasant toothpaste will make the process easier. Also, make sure your child rinses water around the mouth to wash off any additional residue.
Foreign body in the nose
Another cause of bad breath can be a decaying foreign body, such as a piece of food (pea, seed) or a toy stuck in a child's nose. In this case, the smell will come from one nostril. Consult a doctor to remove the foreign body.
Dry mouth
When the mouth is dry, the natural properties of saliva decrease. This allows bacteria in the mouth to proliferate and produce an unpleasant odor. Make sure your child drinks 3-4 glasses of water a day.
Overlaid language
Bacteria and secretions often collect in the back of the tongue. Try scraping them off with a tongue scraper or spoon as your child allows.
Gastrointestinal reflux
Another cause of bad breath may be the regurgitation of stomach acid into the throat. If you notice a sour smell in your child, this is most likely the reason. The child may often regurgitate, sleep restlessly, make sounds in the throat, and experience abdominal discomfort. It is better to offer your child small frequent servings, and keep him upright for at least half an hour after eating.
The smell of acetone in a child
The smell of acetone can be a sign of diabetes.
Ketosis in a child can occur when the body is unable to get enough energy to metabolize carbohydrates and begins to break down fats to produce ketones.
However, the cause may be not only diabetes, but also a decrease in appetite due to illness or another cause.
Bad breath: what to do and how to check?

The first step in dealing with bad breath is, of course, identifying it before someone tells you to do so.
As already mentioned, the source of the unpleasant odor is most often the tongue, so it should be checked first.
If visually your tongue is pink and shiny, this is a good sign, and white with deposits is not so good.
Take a spoon and scrape off the back of your tongue with the tip of a spoon. Then let it dry and smell it.
Breathing into bowl-shaped hands is not the best way to test your breathing.
Instead, you can lick the back of your hand, let the saliva dry for a few seconds, and then smell the surface.
As for food, you should pay more attention to what you eat. If you ate garlic or onions, it's best to take steps to remedy the situation.
How to get rid of bad breath?

Unfortunately, there is no single long-term solution to this problem.
Since halitosis is caused by various causes, all solutions are temporary and must be repeated to get rid of bad breath.
Drink water more often
Bacteria build up when your mouth is dry, and naturally one way to combat this is to drink water regularly. If you drink water regularly and produce saliva, the chances of a bad smell are reduced.
Use tongue scrapers
Cleaning the back of the tongue is the most effective method. Ideally, this should be done after every meal. This reduces the concentration of volatile sulfur compounds, reducing bad breath.
Rinse your mouth
If you can't use a toothbrush or tongue scraper, you can rinse your mouth with a mouthwash. Rinsing is better at getting rid of bacteria than chewing gums or mints, but it's still temporary and not as thorough as cleaning the tongue.
To achieve the best result, rinse your mouth for 30 seconds, do not eat or smoke for half an hour after rinsing.
There have recently been some concerns that mouthwashes containing alcohol may cause oral cancer, although recent studies have not confirmed this link.
If you still don't want to take the risk, you can make an alcohol-free mouthwash.
· Boil 5 cinnamon sticks in one cup of water for 5 minutes.
· After that, remove the cinnamon sticks and let the water cool down.
· Keep this mouthwash in a bottle or spray bottle.
Also, try rinsing your mouth with water and a pinch of soda or salt.
Brush your teeth with a thread
Bacteria can break down food stuck between your teeth and cause a bad smell. Regular flossing helps remove food particles. And while the tongue is the main source of bad breath, dental floss also plays an important role.
Mint pills
Most people carry peppermint pills or chewing gum to freshen their breath. However, the effect of this is temporary and will not last as long as after rinsing your mouth and cleaning your tongue.
How to remove bad breath?

Certain foods can reduce bad odors.
For example, green tea has antibacterial properties, and cinnamon contains essential oils that kill many bacteria. You can add cinnamon to your morning cereal or a cinnamon stick to your tea.
Crispy vegetables and fruits, such as celery and apple, have a double effect. They increase saliva production, and the solid structure removes bacteria from the surface. Melons, oranges, and berries can also help.
Here are a few products you can carry around to reduce bad breath for a while:
Seeds:
· Anise (a few seeds before meals are also good for digestion)
· Cardamom
· Fennel
· Dill (masks the smell)
And also:
· Cinnamon sticks (bite off a small piece and chew)
· Cloves (one prong is enough)
· Parsley (chew well)
How to remove the smell of onions and garlic from your mouth

Onions and garlic are quite popular ingredients that not only make the dish tastier, but also have health benefits. However, they are often responsible for bad breath. Here are a few remedies that can help you neutralize the smell of onions or garlic.
Raw apple
Apple and some other fruits have properties that cause them to oxidize. These properties are also effective in combating sulfur compounds in garlic and onions.
Lemon juice
The acid in lemon juice neutralizes alliinase, an enzyme produced when onions or garlic are crushed that causes an unpleasant odor.
Green tea
Green tea is rich in polyphenols that mask substances that cause bad odors.
milk
A recent study found that the combination of water and fat in milk helps combat the unpleasant smell of garlic. At the same time, it is best to drink milk with garlic than after eating.
How to get rid of the smell of alcohol or fumes from the mouth

Alcohol has a fairly distinct smell and, unfortunately, no method of getting rid of it is ideal. If you want to get rid of the smell of alcohol, you can try the following methods:
Brush your teeth
Although a strong-smelling toothpaste helps remove the smell of alcohol, this method is not always convenient and will not get rid of the smell left on the back of your throat.
Coffee
Coffee can dampen the smell of alcohol. It is best to choose strong black coffee without milk and sugar and rinse your teeth lightly with it. You can also chew coffee beans.
Chewing gum
After coffee, you can chew chewing gum. However, many people know that chewing gum is most commonly used to mask the smell of fumes, so this method may raise suspicions.
Activated carbon
To remove the smell of alcohol, you can use activated carbon by chewing tablets in a dosage according to weight (10-20 tablets).
Fragrant products
Products with a strong smell are good at masking other odors. In some situations, the smell of garlic or onion will be more favorably received than the smell of fumes. Ideally, use the spices mentioned above.
