How long is smoked fish stored in the refrigerator

Cold smoked fish

If the fish has been smoked for a long time using the cold method, it can remain fresh in the refrigerator for up to 10 days if it is wrapped in paper.

Hot smoked fish

Such fish can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. This large difference in shelf life is due to the fact that during cold smoking, the fish is more soaked in salt, and the heat treatment takes place for a longer time.

* It should be noted that both types of fish can be safely frozen. They can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.

* You can also wrap the fish in a cloth previously soaked in salt water and place it in the refrigerator (+3 C). In this form, it can not be frozen and it can remain fresh for up to 1 month.

* Pay close attention to the smell of the fish and its appearance.

Keep salted and dried fish in the refrigerator

Dried fish:

* Dried fish can be stored for quite a long time, as the salt used in its preparation plays the role of a preservative.

* Use thick wrapping paper to wrap the dried fish, then place the fish in a dry, cold place that does not receive sunlight.

* If you don't have wrapping paper, you can use a tin or glass jar, which must be covered with a lid.

* In the heat, it is better to keep the fish in the freezer so that it lasts longer.

If you properly dry the fish and then store it according to the above rules, it will be able to retain its taste for a whole year.

Helpful tip: don't wrap fish in newspaper, as the ink used to print words and images contains lead.
