The task asks users to think outside the box to find two different but correct answers to a series of equations.

This is what the creators of the problem write: “First of all, think outside the box. This math problem is not that easy. Even if there's usually only one right answer to a math problem, there are two common solutions that are hotly debated around the world.”

They claim that only 1 in 1,000 people can find a second possible answer to this problem. How are you going to do it?

Logic problem with answers

Solution 1.

The creators of the problem explained that most people start by adding 1+4, which is 5.

They then add 2+5 to the previous sum of 5, and they get an answer of 12.

Most users do the same process on the next line, adding 3+6 to get 9 and then adding 9 to the previous sum of 12 to arrive at 21.

On the last line, they add 8+11 to get 19 before adding to the previous line (21), and they get an answer of 40.

While 40 is the correct and common answer, there is another answer that few people know about.

Solution 2

Although it is obvious that 1+4=5, very smart people will get an answer by adding 1+ (4 x 1).

Using this formula, they add 2+ (2 x 5) to get 12.

Then they add 3+ (3 x 6) to get 21.

To come to the final decision, they add 8+ (8 x 11) and get 96.
