The lakes of Canada are a vivid phenomenon of North American nature. As for the thousands of southern ones, each has a dry perimeter and is covered with dense forest (Canada holds the record for the number of hectares of greenery per person!). Moreover, often the natural arboretum is quite rich in species composition. Needles and hardwoods are adjacent to shrubs here. No wonder one of the greats said: “The most beautiful autumn is North American …”. Many natural reservoirs are hidden in picturesque mountains and have an unforgettable turquoise hue in sunny weather… It remains to add that hiking enthusiasts are waiting for thousands of tracks, and “beachgoers” – different camp sites.

Peyto
This lake of Canada in the list of local wonders is named as “wolf’s head” (hence the name). Not the size is the “chip” of the wonderful water area (5.3 sq. km). A unique shape. “Mountain flour” (ice) is another reason for a celebrity. It is washed away by glacial flows from the very peaks (the bowl lies at an altitude of 1,860 m). Peyto is Louise’s neighbor (they are separated by 50 km). The address is GZ “Banff” (Alberta province, but in terms of geography it is the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains).

Comfortable rest

The most convenient spots of the contour have long been captured by tourist bases (there are too many of them, some are designed specifically for fishermen – the described natural reservoir is famous for its variety of ichthyofauna). The entrance here is convenient via IceField Parkway (Highway No. 93). By the way, it will help you out on the way to Louise or Moiraine. Awnings, rental of deck chairs, platforms, parking lots. Nearby is a park railway, many observation decks, toll booths for tents. There are a dozen elite guest complexes. Some with golf courses, other sports and boat stations. In total, Banff has 50 hospitality facilities for every taste and budget.

Wild tourism

The lake of Canada indicated in the title is also attractive for “hikers”. The valley along the Vaputik ridge is not only pristine clean water, but also amazing points for standing, as well as swashbuckling mountain routes connecting them. You can also move along the Mistaya River, the beginning of which is Peyto. By the way, the Indian hydronym “Peyto” is, in fact, the name of the glacier. Especially stubborn and fearless trekkers are waiting for Bow Mountain and Icefields Boulevard.

Winnipeg
In Canada, recreation on the lakes is often associated with many other types of tourism. Winnipeg is just one of a series of such geographical objects. It is stationed in the Canadian Prairie (North American steppe). It is at the southwestern border of the mountainous country of the Canadian Shield (Manitoba). The town of Gimli is most interesting in the region. Its population considers themselves “pure-blooded descendants of the Vikings”, who allegedly reached North America in the X century. As for the reservoir itself, it stretches for 425 kilometers. And the widest diameter is 109 km . The water bowl is located parallel to the “three lakes” (Manitoba-Winnipegosis-Cedar).

Comfortable rest

This lake of Canada is fed by the water of the Red River stream. However, it is considered not the cleanest. It is curious that more often here you will see travelers – indigenous people on the lake perimeter of no more than 23,000 people. Everything is prepared for tourists in some places. For example, in Gimli (west coast), everyone is expected to attend the Icelandic festival (we repeat that the aborigines there are sure that they are the heirs of the Vikings). Guest mini-complexes, ethnic village (New Iceland Heritage Museum), appropriate folk music, people in historical costumes and reconstruction… On many sites they write “Jimli”, but it is correct to say “Gimli” – this is how (in the Old German manner) the locals call their small homeland … Restaurants function. Children will not be bored either. There are attractions (even a Ferris wheel)…

There are guest houses further south – up to the mouth of the Red River. There, if desired, the locals can take you for a boat ride… By the way, in the northern half, the steppe turns into a forest-steppe and into a dense forest.

Wild tourism

Like the “three lakes”, the mentioned lake of Canada is the pearl of all Canadian Prairie and forest–steppe. In the northeast, visitors will easily find the Poplar nature reserve/Nanowin Rivers.” The main inhabitant of these places is the caribou forest deer. Of the other settlers, they are exclusively Indians (they are allowed to occupy these lands and engage in traditional nature management). The exception is the settlement of Hekla in the neighboring GZ, founded by the 2nd stream of Icelanders (named after an existing Icelandic settlement – the fact is that the colonists sailed from there)…

Ecotropes have been laid. Visual communication signs are provided on the territory. Guided tours are available. There are also walking paths in provincial park Hecla. We are talking about the Grindstone Peninsula, Hecla Island and some adjacent areas. The reserve is famous for the braids extending deep into the lake surface, formed by geological material at least 10,000 years old. The congestion in the last stage of the Ice Age eventually formed Lake Agassiz, as well as all the geographical objects described above. The rocks here are calcareous, of striking shapes. The flora abounds with birch, Canadian spruce and alder. The entire infrastructure is the Lakeview Hecla Resort Hotel (the historic fishing village of Hecla). Here you will be taken for a ride on a “motorboat”. Away from it, you can only count on places for a tent overnight. There is a moose trail and a low lighthouse (standing at the main sign). The entrance is convenient by rural passage (provincial trunk) Hwy 8 (MB-8). The highway starts in Winnipeg.

Huron
And this natural basin of glacial origin is known as the “most insular”. The pieces of land on the lake surface are nature, described in detail in Fenimore Cooper’s novel “St. John’s Wort”. As you may remember, the lake is named after a large tribe of Hurons (“Wendat”). The people belonged to the Iroquois tribal union. Before the White invasion, it consisted of 120,000 people.

The natural basin is part of the Great Lakes group. It is connected to other reservoirs by channels. It has an area of 59,600 sq. km (comparable in size to the Upper and Big Bear, occupying an intermediate position in the list). Administratively, the hydrological object belongs to both the United States and the Canadian region of Ontario (which was also christened after the lake). The “symbol” of Huron is Manitoulin Island, it is famous for being the largest isolate in the world on the territory of the lake surface. Dimensions 129 by 60 km. Inside there are its own water bowls, one of which, Manitou, gave the name to the island itself. Lake bays are often mistaken for lakes.

Comfortable rest

The designated lake of Canada on one of the fragments of its coast has deep sandy beaches (sometimes up to 200 meters wide!) with big dunes. Recreation areas are equipped with canopies and rental sun beds, and in some places rescue stations. And on Manitoulin you will find cozy hotels “Manitoulin Wanted”, “Manitoulin Inn”, Wayside Motel Manitoulin (roadside) and “Twin Peaks Bet” (cottages, buildings, country-style bungalows). The Eastern Airfield is located in one of the halves. Almost everywhere they are allowed with pets. There are many yacht marinas and fishing platforms. There is an opportunity to feed ducks, ride a boat. There are lawns with a well-groomed lawn, barbecue areas and golf games. Dense plantings.

Wild tourism

Recreation on lakes like the one just presented is distinguished by observing hundreds of species of aquatic avifauna. Colonies of aquatic birds are everywhere here. Some bird bazaars are guarded. Equipped tracks lead through a coniferous and mixed natural arboretum to various rocky attractions of the Canadian Shield, similar to the ruins of castles. There are several campsites on the routes (with areas for tent and trailer camping in provincial parks). The highway leading to the most picturesque shores of Huron is called the All-Canada Road (branch No. 69). Turns to different resorts depart from it, as well as to the ferry to Manitoulin. Look at the amazing rock-Turnip Rock Island – there is also a piece of shore that looks like the bow of an ancient ship. Alas, these miracles are already on the American side (Michigan). However, they are well viewed from the outside. During the excursion on the “motorboat”.

Louise
Some lakes in Canada have titles greater than the continental level. It is to such that what is named in the title refers. “The most aristocratic” in the western hemisphere. Since it is named after the princess, and the Fairmont Chateau hotel is considered the most elite here. The location of the object is the Banff State Reserve (Alberta). And the size is 0.8 sq. km .

Comfortable rest

Fairmont Chateau is located in the northeast corner of the coast. Any rooms – from presidential to standard, 7 restaurants, a yacht berth. From the windows there are views of the nearby peaks – Saint Piran and Devils Tamb (to the west), and also Fairview (to the south). There is a cheaper hotel on the way from the highway.

Wild tourism

In Canada, a vacation on Lake Louise is considered in the described country to be something like a trip to the Abkhazian Ritsa or the Russian Baikal. It seems like here it is – untouched beauty. The most transparent surface. At the same time, the place is not so wild: the possibilities for standing with a tent are wide. As for campsites, the most noteworthy are Lake Louise Campground (200 seats) and Rampart Creek Campground (at the entrance, 88 km away). And from the south-eastern coast there are climbing paths to the Plain of Six Glaciers (Plateau of Six Glaciers) – an extreme route with a length of 14.6 km.

Moiraine
This water bowl, which got into the mountain “cauldron” (moraine), received the official status of “the most photogenic”. Rocky scree, sand, windfall, contour of emerald needles and a lot of tall peaks covered with snow caps! Accordingly, you can get here only by a complex serpentine. However, people come here from all over the province of Alberta every weekend! The location is the Valley of the Ten Peaks of the Banff Reserve. The area is 0.5 square kilometers.

Comfortable rest

Holidays on lakes in Canada are often quite comfortable and at the same time economical. So it is with this hydrological object! You will enjoy the three–star Moraine Lake Lodge Hotel – it is located on the north shore (at the dead end of the winding mountain highway connecting Moraine with the fork to Louise and the Lake Louise Campground named above). There is no more housing. But there are plenty of parking areas near convenient beach recreations (alas, there are few of them) and platforms.

Wild tourism

There is a partially extreme terrancourt to the Tower of Babel mountain (“The Tower of Babel”). It’s east of the Moiraine Lake Lodge. The boat station will allow you to easily master not only the perimeter, but also the center of this water area (views of which have repeatedly appeared on websites, avenues and even Windows wallpapers). Decided to just explore the edge? You’ll still have to climb on inclined surfaces. But the hangers have been trampled by thousands of feet for a long time – don’t worry. Enjoy the pines, firs… and at the water’s edge – willows and aspens. The upper stratum is an Alpine meadow. Between them is a subalpine woodland with Engelman firs and a dozen types of shrubs.

Superior
This lake of Canada is the largest in the Great Lakes system, and at the same time in the entire Western Hemisphere. Only the Huron and the Big Bear can compare with it (however, the latter cannot be called popular, since it lies in the tundra belt). The area of the object is 82,700 square kilometers, and the length of the coastline is 4,385 kilometers! The largest port is Thunder Bay (the city has 108,000 inhabitants, which is very cool by Canadian standards). The “highlight” of the water bowl is also that, due to frequent storms, its water area simply does not have time to freeze. Canadian coast – north and east. In the Ojibwe language, the lake was called “Gichigami” (“Big Water”).

Comfortable rest

These shores are popular with Canadians and Russian colonists because of the Day of Tourism (“Festival of Festivals”). Traditionally, it is held in any of the resorts of the so-called “Circular Route” (it passes through the territory of both North American countries). The ring is connected not only with the highway, but also with the Agawa Canyon Tour tourist railway. It is possible to get on the train in the town of Sault Ste. Marie). Cheap guesthouses, as well as luxury hotels – there is everything. “Quatro” and “Holiday Inn” are the most famous complexes of Sault Ste. Marie. There are rooms for every taste.

Wild tourism

As you understand, recreation on lakes in Canada is associated with tundra, coniferous and mixed thickets, as well as with forest–steppe and prairie (part of which is agricultural land and fields of windmills). The upper one lies in the humid zone of the temperate zone. Therefore, in the Lake Superior National Reserve (which has equipped ecotropes and equipped parking lots), Canadian spruce, pine, alder, willow, reed bed and thousands of species of meadow and forest plants of the lower belt grow. Its edge is full of free parking lots and spontaneous campsites. Canoeing is the most traditional extreme for these places. And some “water lovers” adore Indian pies (you can get here by 20 rivers flowing from different elevations). Information for fishermen – there are 80 varieties of aquatic life here. Some of them are subject to catch.

Eri
The desired lake in Canada has an area of 25,700 sq. km. It is the most famous – both among “savages” and among connoisseurs of elite infrastructure. This is not surprising. The water bowl is in the top row among the most equipped. Hotels, country clubs, tourist loans, large hotels of a wellness profile – this is an incomplete list of institutions that can be found on the Canadian coast (one of the edges already belongs to the USA).

Comfortable rest

Erie is located in a strategic location – routes 401, 402 and 403 lead here, connecting the major Canadian cities of Hamilton and London with the American Detroit. Half of the roads pass through Toronto and Mississauga (the shore of Lake Ontario in the province of the same name). And there are also several ferry crossings connecting the shores of both states (they are densely covered with port towns and fishing villages). There are a lot of guest accommodation and restaurants…

A vacation on a lake in Canada at this point ceases to be associated simply with nature. It’s like it’s already urban. You can visit many architectural and sculptural attractions, as well as museums, lighthouses (around the lake you will count 60 of them), ancient bridges, exotic parks or a lot of historical places. The towns here have European names. Hundreds of pleasure craft and small boats dissect the water surface. In addition, sports yachting is also popular…

Wild tourism

Independent recreation on Lake Erie is “prescribed” to everyone who has a boat, a boat or at least some kind of car (not necessarily an SUV – the roads are wonderful and there are too many of them). It remains to add that the locations for swimming on the lake are more often shallow, pebbly or sandy. All of them are numbered for order (as well as berths). Bathers, get ready for incessant winds (that’s why locals like to fly kites here more often) and frequent rains. Moreover, even in the height of summer…

In Canada, recreation on the lakes has every taste – here are waiting for connoisseurs of sports craft, people eager to sit by the campfire, fans of yachting, mushroom and berry hunting, mountain trekking, jipping, diving, rafting, caving, educational hikes and equipped relaxation on the shore (with swimming). Waterfall lovers? There are trails of all levels. Landscapes will delight those who have a good camera with them!… Every year tourists, inspired by the local colorful nature, rush to the clear waters for photo frames. The pictures will collect millions of likes on different social networks or just leave a beautiful memory for the rest of your life. Driving through the country from the east to the west coast along the All-Canada Road, you will see lakes of “all colors”…
