Science

English psychologist and book author Richard Wiseman once conducted a 10-year study related to the science of luck.

He put several ads in the newspaper urging people who consider themselves very lucky and very unlucky to contact him.

A total of 400 people from all walks of life and ages participated in the study.

Lucky and unlucky people

In one experiment, he asked both those who considered themselves lucky and those who thought they were unlucky to look at a newspaper and count the number of photos published in it. It took about two minutes for the unlucky ones, and a few seconds for the lucky ones. Why?

The fact is that the second page of the newspaper had the following message: “Stop counting. There are 43 photos in this newspaper.” It seems that the lucky ones were more open to opportunities.

In another experiment, a scientist presented all participants with the following scenario: Imagine you're in a bank and suddenly an armed robber walks in. He only shoots once, but the bullet is the one that hits you in the arm. Do you consider this event a success or a failure?

Most of those who considered themselves unlucky said they were lucky, not only unlucky to be in the bank during the robbery, but also to be the only one shot.

But the lucky ones, on the contrary, considered this a good scenario, because it could be worse — a bullet could hit the head and kill.

According to the scientist, lucky people, by nature, always think that the failure they faced could have been worse. Therefore, they often have a positive attitude towards themselves and their lives.

This, in turn, means that they always expect the best from their future. Thanks to this, they will continue to live a happy life.

How to attract good luck

Wiseman used his research to find out how people could be luckier. He found that successful people always use four principles. Therefore, to be luckier, you should:

1. Increase your chances. Be more open to something new and unknown, and try to be calmer.

2. Listen to your inner voice. Learn to pay more attention to your intuition and try to clear your mind of chaotic thoughts.

3. Always expect to be lucky. Lucky people always assume that everything is going to be fine. This gives them the strength and motivation to keep going, even in the face of the setbacks that everyone has.

4. Turn bad luck into good luck. Imagine it could be worse. Don't focus on the bad. Try to take control of the situation instead of letting go and giving up.
