Incredible facts

British scientists have managed to refute the previous theory that a liar can be easily identified by the eyes. For a long time, it has been believed that if a person looks up and to the right, he is probably lying, but if he looks up and to the left, he is telling the truth. Recently, scientists from the University of Edinburgh, as well as another research center in the UK, after a series of studies, found that this is nothing more than a myth invented by ordinary people. This was reported by the BBC TV channel.

According to scientists, the relationship between what a person says and where they look was one of the main methods of neurolinguistic programming (NLP), which is one of the main methods studies of human behavior. Based on this theory, if a person looks to the right, they are most likely not saying something or even deceiving something somewhere. If he looks to the left, it means that the person remembers something intensively.

An interesting study has been done. Several volunteers were asked to lie one by one and tell the truth in front of the camera. After that, another group of test subjects were asked to watch all the videos and determine who was a liar and who was telling the truth.

Many, indeed, believed that a liar can be identified by the eyes, or rather, by certain movements. However, University of Edinburgh professor Karolina Vatt says it's time to disprove such theories. According to her, there is no evidence that there is a direct link between eye movement and whether a person is lying or telling the truth. This study has confirmed this.

Opponents of the neurolinguistic programming method urge to abandon this theory, which is supported by the principles of NLP. A professor at one of the research centers for the study of psychology argues that people do not need to know about psychological analysis methods in order to use them. You should abandon this in everyday life and contact them only as a last resort.

Despite this, Richard Weisman, a professor at the University of Harfordshire, says that there are 5 ways to determine whether a person is lying or not. The first thing to pay attention to is that when a person tells a lie, he often emphasizes his involvement in the event in his speech, repeats the pronoun “I” and derivatives of he is “me”, “me”, etc. On a subconscious level, he seems to be proving his involvement.

The second thing you should pay attention to in the speaker's speech is whether he pauses and how often there are hitches in the conversation. A liar is also characterized by various interjections “mmmm”, “uh”, etc. Often, when a person lies, he tries to concentrate, which leads to a minimization of movements. This is also worth paying attention to. Or, on the contrary, the liar begins to wave his arms, fiddle with his hair or nails while talking.

We can't recognize a liar by our eyes
