Which behavior travelers consider more unacceptable during the flight depends largely on the country in which these travelers live. However, all over the world openly dislike fellow travelers-drinkers. These are the results of the YouGov study.

“Raising the degree” on board is considered completely unacceptable by 55% of respondents, 20% called such behavior “rather unacceptable” – a total of 75% of respondents. All sorts of preening in the cabin of the aircraft outrages 55% of respondents. 28% of travelers noted that they are annoyed by public displays of affection.

51% of airplane passengers are wary of noisy children over the age of four, but intolerance to screaming babies is milder – only 23% of respondents strain because of babies.

59% of travelers are dissatisfied with passengers who watch or listen to something without headphones. 53% condemn those who completely recline the seat back. 51% noted that they do not tolerate when someone takes off their shoes and socks. 39% would prefer to give up small talk, which is imposed on them by a fellow traveler.

Curiously, women are more intolerant of drinking on the plane than men: 81% versus 70%. And in general, women more often called some kind of behavior inappropriate: the lack of headphones when watching media was condemned by 64% of women against 55% of men, reclining – 59% against 48%, “grooming” – 59% against 51%.

The gender gap turned out to be insignificant in the paragraph about noisy children over four years old: 51% of women and 52% of men do not like such guys. But crying babies are the only point on which men expressed more irritation than women: 25% of men versus 21% of women.

As for running around the countries, it turned out that travelers from the UAE are more loyal to the different needs of their fellow travelers. Even drinkers are considered etiquette violators in only 57% of responses – against 78% of dissatisfied Europeans, 77% of North Americans and 73% of residents of the Asia-Pacific region. The same trend is observed with the items about the reclined back and removed shoes. But the residents of the UAE have a slightly lower tolerance for hugging in public.

YouGov provides data based on a study of 18 markets with a sample size from 512 to 2034 people for each of them. All respondents are adults. The survey was conducted online in February 2023.
